🚗 You may notice a specialized vehicle from PEC driving throughout Halstead this week as part of the City’s street condition assessment and inventory project.
This work is part of the improvements funded through the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) Innovative Technology Grant awarded to the City. In addition to evaluating street conditions, the project will include an assessment of the City’s storm water system as well as the creation of updated mapping and infrastructure inventories through GIS technology.
If you see the vehicle shown in the attached photo traveling city streets, there is no cause for concern—it is simply collecting information that will help the City better plan for future maintenance and infrastructure improvements.

Residents may notice representatives from Zenner throughout Halstead over the next several days inspecting water and gas meters. These representatives are assisting the City with improvements and maintenance of our automated meter reading system.
Please do not be alarmed if you see them in your yard or near your meter. We appreciate your cooperation as we work to ensure accurate and efficient utility meter readings.

The City of Halstead would like to thank our Fire/EMS Department for taking time to visit with the Halstead Dragon Kids and provide an educational presentation about fire safety, emergency response, and the important role first responders play in our community.
Students had the opportunity to learn valuable safety tips, ask questions, and get a closer look at the equipment and vehicles used by our Fire/EMS team every day.
We appreciate our Fire/EMS personnel for their dedication to keeping our community safe and for helping educate the next generation of Dragons!

Mayer Specialty Services will be cleaning sanitary sewers June 10–17, 2026. This important work helps prevent stoppages and keeps our system running smoothly.
If your home or business is in the affected area, please:
✅ Cover all floor drains with plastic and secure with a weight.
✅ Cover all toilets with plastic and close the lid.
✅ If you experience an unpleasant odor, run water into each drain to refill the traps.

Pavement restriping work is taking place on 6th Street today. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if possible and seek alternate routes to help reduce traffic delays and allow the work to be completed safely and efficiently.
